APPRAISER I OR APPRAISER II/ TAX ASSESSOR
Purpose of Job
Appraiser I: The purpose of this job is to review and appraise the typical types of residential and light commercial properties. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to locating and valuing parcels of property; gathering all information needed for appraisal of property; preparing and supporting documentation to defend contested assessments; assisting general public; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Appraiser II: The purpose of this job is to review and appraise the typical types of residential and light commercial properties. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to locating and valuing parcels of property; gathering all information needed for appraisal of property; preparing and supporting documentation to defend contested assessments; assisting general public; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Job Related Requirements
WORK SCHEDULE: MONDAY-FRIDAY, 9:00A.M.-5:00P.M.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Must work cooperatively with others.
- When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle.
MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess Appraiser I Certification or obtain Appraiser I certification within 18 months of hire.
- Appraiser II position must possess Appraiser II Certification obtain Appraiser II certification within one year of date of hire.
Essential Job Functions: Under general supervision, performs field, technical and office work in the appraisal of real property for tax purposes. Interprets and applies state/local laws pertaining to property taxation and assessment. Responds to complaints and answers questions related to property appraisal operations. Conducts field reviews of real property. Locates and identifies real property referring to various maps, property indexes, directories, building permits and other documents. Measure’s property size, shape, and square footage. Calculates appraised values of real property. Conducts research as needed. Maintains current files and records of tax appraisal activities and associated documentation. Performs related duties as assigned.
